Buddy Woodward: Autoharp, Banjo, Bass, Guitar, Mandolin, Mountain Dulcimer
Musician/singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/producer BUDDY WOODWARD is a founding member of the award-winning bluegrass band, THE DIXIE BEE-LINERS, whose new CD "Susanville" was released on Pinecastle Records on November 3rd, 2009. Also a founding member of seminal 90's alt.country whiz kids THE GHOST ROCKETS, and NYC honkytonkers BUDDY WOODWARD & THE NITRO EXPRESS, Buddy has been a featured performer on Greg Garing's Alphabet City Opry, as well as having played with John Starling, Steve Earle, Rosie Flores, Jim Lauderdale, The Coal Porters, Laura Cantrell, Bill Keith, Beat Rodeo, Sid Griffin, Smalltown Parade, The Jet Set, and The Chelsea Mountain Jamboree, among many others. He has also appeared as a actor/musician at The Barter Theatre in several of their productions, including Man of Constant Sorrow: The Story of the Stanley Brothers; Jimmie Rodgers: America's Blue Yodeler; and Keep On The Sunny Side: The Songs & Story of the Carter Family, as well as having composed, performed and recorded music for the Barter Players productions Where The Red Fern Grows, and I Can Be Anything: The Musical Legend of the Simple Machines, and the Civil War film, Freedom.
A native of North Carolina, and has a B.F.A. from Shenandoah College and Conservatory. Gill has worked at many regional theatres throughout the country and has had the honor to perform at the Ryman Auditorium and on the Grand Ole Opry. Gill relocated to Abingdon, Virginia in 2002 to work for Barter Theatre when he accepted a role in Keep on the Sunnyside: The Songs and Story of the Carter Family. Gill also originated the role of Dr. Ralph Stanley in Man of Constant Sorrow: The Story of the Stanley Brothers. While preparing for these roles, Gill's appreciation for old-time, bluegrass and what some call mountain music grew over the years as did his knowledge of this genre. Since leaving Barter Theatre, Gill has been an active performing singer/songwriter, musician, and songwriting instructor. Gill appreciates all types of music and has written in the genres of Bluegrass, Country, Rock and Contemporary Christian music. Gill released a CD of his original work, "Pick Me Up" in 2008. Tom Deaton is well known around Abingdon as one of the best finerstyle guitar players around. Plus, he is just a great guy. A native of Bluefield, Virginia, Tom began playing more than 55 years ago. He became interested in Flamenco and classical guitar as a child and made early appearences in local talent shows winning over the audience. Tom has taught lessons in various music stores. for many years and we are pleased to have him here at Capo's..
Joy is a southwest Virginia native with roots deep in oldtime and bluegrass music. Joy is a well-respected clawhammer banjo player and teacher. Joy is new to the teaching roster here at Capo's and we are very happy to have her here.
John Dancer is a well respected local luthier who makes violins/fiddles and mandolins along with the occasional guitar. John has been playing for a number of years and can be found at the Capo's acoustic jam on occasion.
